On May 7th, the City of Naples gathered at City Hall to celebrate a living legend. In honor of National Nurses Week, Mayor Teresa Heitmann proudly presented the Key to the City to Mrs. Thelma Hodges—one of Naples’ very first nurses and a tireless advocate for the health and well-being of our community.
Mrs. Hodges’ extraordinary journey began in 1955 when she helped open Naples’ first hospital as a young nurse. Over the decades, she and her beloved husband, Earl, built a life of purpose and service that continues to inspire generations. Now in her 90s, Thelma is still actively involved, proving that her fearless spirit and unwavering dedication are as strong as ever.
The event was a heartfelt tribute to a woman whose story is not just part of our city’s history—it is the heart of our hometown. Surrounded by community leaders, friends, and admirers, Thelma accepted the honor with grace and humility.
Thank you, Thelma, for your lifetime of service and spirit. Naples is forever grateful.
